Smile & eyes are the first things people notice when looking at someone, and a nice smile can leave a lasting impression. Hiding your smile because you’re self-conscious about it may contribute to feelings of low self-worth. The more you smile, the happier you become. Low self-esteem and a sense of unworthiness might result from a negative self-image. Any body part that makes you feel self-conscious lowers your self-esteem, but teeth in particular. This is partly due to whitening procedures and the prevalence of "perfect" smiles in media such as movies and social media, both of which have elevated expectations for what constitutes "excellent teeth." White teeth are frequently linked to good health and wealth in general. It makes sense that people would feel self-conscious about their smile when they are surrounded by a sea of flawlessly straight, white teeth. According to a study, approximately 70% of Americans admit to having dental insecurities, and 60% of Americans hide their mouths when they laugh. The same number said they wished they could change the color of their teeth, which was the most prevalent complaint.
